A Litmus Test For Men

My personal first and worst offense is excluding God from my thoughts, words and actions. I believe it is the first and worst offense of every man on the face of the earth. Since I became a Christian, I have learned that it is best to INCLUDE Him as much as I possibly can. I must relearn that often.

Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised.

Romans 1:28-31: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Notice that the first of the evils listed in the passage is they did not like to retain God in their knowledge. The first offense on the list is also the worst offense. It must be a horrible offense because it caused God to give them over to many other offenses. We cannot know their thoughts but their speech, interests and actions give them away. If they have no interest in God they will probably be involved in a litany of evils. The reverse is true as well. If individuals are involved in the evils listed in the passage, they will not want to retain God in their knowledge. They will be someone that needs prayer and needs to hear and respond to the gospel.

They will be someone that Christians should not count as a friend. They should not be followed. The less influence those individuals have on others the better. Our nation would be better off if they did not occupy positions of influence or authority. They should not be school teachers. We should keep them away from our children. They should not be law makers. We should keep them out of political office. They should not be news reporters. We should be wary of whatever they say. Deceit is on the list of evils.

When individuals are guilty of that first and worst offense and the others, it is unwise to expect any good things out of them. When people don*t want to speak about God or hear about Him or think about Him they are not to be trusted to do or say anything that is true and good and wise.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon:

The stream declares the character of the fountain.

The problem with our nation today is that so many people who do not want to think about God are in positions of influence and authority. Whether or not they are interested in speaking about God and thinking about Him is a great litmus test. That test alone can tell us what to expect out of them.

Matthew 12:35: A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
